Free maps and voice guidance for iPhone, Navmii (Navfree GPS)
Introduction
There are several GPS applications for all tastes. There are also the maps of Google and the Apple. However, in the first case you will need a lot of money to get them and in the second you will have to rely on the availability of the mobile network and the data volume of your plan in order to use them.
The application navmii (formerly Navfree) comes to fill this gap. Off line maps of Greece and vocal guidance, free of charge. Without needing 3G ή 4G coverage and without paying a single cent.
The Application
In the main menu of the application we have several options, let's look at some of them:
- Navigation (add an address manually or select from points of interest with support for Foursquare, Google Search, favorites, recent, etc.)
- Original (direct instructions to "the house")
- Google search (search for points of interest through the database of the Google)
- My route (additional options for the routes you select from navigation: route clearance, route overview, directions, etc.)
- Send location (publish your location in the social media)
- Updates (includes in-app purchases such as removal of ads 1,79€, access to security cameras 1,79€ / month, finding empty parking spaces 3,59€ / month etc.)
- Back to the map (viewing of current location on the map)
- iThink (prompting users to rate the app on the App Store, which could be missing from the main screen)
- Route clearance (delete selected route)
Usage - our experience
We have tested the application and here are our findings:
- The satellites "lock" quickly, especially for free application but also with excellent accuracy
- The proposed routes are usually the optimal
- There are some bugs, such as the overlapping of some options by advertisements, which happened twice in the course of about 1.5 hours of our tests
- There is no plethora of options configuration of the application
- Excellent vocal guidance
- Several anagrams in various Words
Conclusion - Epilogue
The application Appnav is a very good solution for those who need a navigator on their iPhone or iPad with off line maps and voice guidance, free of charge. It also has some small problems, that will not bother you during its use. By installing it you will no longer need 3G ή 4G network for your navigation, we would of course prefer if there were some customization options.
