The presentation of the new iPhone and especially the iPhone 14 Plus was the core of Apple's presentation that took place on Wednesday evening.

The company has decided to end the smaller sizes of the iPhone mini series as they didn't do very well in terms of sales. Instead Apple seems to have learned its lesson and the mini series was replaced this year by the impressive 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus.

Colours

The iPhone 14 will be available in 5 different color options of black, white, blue, red, and purple.

Screen

Super Retina XDR 1200 nits with OLED technology that supports up to 1200 nits of brightness.

Material

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are made of durable ceramic-coated glass, which is the most durable compared to any other glass ever put on a smartphone. It also features high water resistance to a depth of up to 6 meters and dust resistance.

A15 Bionic

A15 Bionic brings incredible performance to iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. It's the fastest processor available in any smartphone in the price range with the iPhone 14. The 5-core GPU enables incredibly high graphics performance and works with camera features like Photonic Engine and Cinematic Mode.

The 6-core CPU can easily handle any process smoothly and efficiently, and the 16-core Neural Engine is capable of 15.8 trillion operations per second.

Improved camera system

Upgrades to the camera system include:

  • A new main camera with a larger ƒ/1.5 aperture and 1.9 µm pixel, enabling photo and video enhancements in all lighting scenarios for better detail and motion freeze, less noise, faster exposure times and optical image stabilisation with sensor shift.
  • A new TrueDepth front-facing camera with a ƒ/1.9 aperture that allows better low-light performance for photos and videos. Using autofocus for the first time, it can focus even faster in low light and capture group shots from further away.
  • A new action mode for incredibly smooth video that adjusts to significant shakes, movement and vibrations, even when shooting video in the middle of the action.
  • The Ultra Wide camera, which offers a unique perspective for wider shots and low-light photo enhancements with Photonic Engine.
  • An improved True Tone flash that's 10 percent brighter and has better uniformity for more stable lighting.
  • Cinema mode, available in 4K at 30fps and 4K at 24 fps.

Connectivity

5G connectivity for ultra-fast speeds and the ability to use a digital sim card "esim", which allows you to use multiple mobile plans on one device easily and quickly. Since all US carriers are now compatible with digital sim, all models released in the US will not have a sim card slot.

Satellite Connection

With Emergency SOS via Satellite, it is possible to exchange messages with emergency services when not covered by mobile or WiFi coverage.

To use this feature, a special SOS function is activated on your phone and shows you which direction the satellite is facing so you can point your device and connect to send a message and request help in an emergency.

Also in case you cannot type an automatic questionnaire is activated and you can easily and quickly describe the situation you are in by simply clicking a few clicks.

Satellite Emergency SOS will be available to users in the US and Canada in November and the service will be free of charge for two years.

Price

The price of the iPhone 14 starts at $799 and the iPhone 14 Plus at $899. Based on our experience so far, the new iPhones are expected to be released in Greece around mid-October, while prices will be around the same level as those of the 13 series models with the only difference being that there will no longer be the smaller and cheaper mini model.
