Apple last week filed a dossier on two iPads in the Eurasian Commission's database, as Consomac discovered.

Legal provisions require devices to be encrypted in order to be registered before they can be officially released. In the past, similar files have revealed new MacBook models, the iPhone 7 and AirPods.

The most recent entries show two new devices, with model IDs A1954 and A1893 corresponding to Apple tablets "running" iOS 11. This indicates that the new iPads will make their appearance soon enough, without knowing the exact date at the moment.

A major update to the iPad is expected later this year with several elements taken from the iPhone X including the almost bezel-less design, as well as the lack of a Home Button in favour of facial recognition, known as Face ID. However, the specific database files, do not seem to mention these features.

iPads with Face ID have been reported to be designed as products that will be released in the second half of 2018. The timing of the Eurasian envelopes, however, state that we will see them much earlier than the above date.

For example, reports about the iPhone 7 and AirPods appeared 15 days before their launch event. The MacBook and the new keyboard were submitted to the Eurasian database in May. Their unveiling took place at WWDC in early June.

Therefore, the greatest likelihood is that new iPads will appear in the next two months without Face ID. It is possible that this will be a refresh of the line that is not part of the iPad Pro lineup.

Apple released the $329 iPad in March 2017, which in turn stood deservedly for a year. Combined with the timing of when the envelopes appeared, it's probably time for an annual refresh.

DigiTimes had recently stated that Apple may release a cheaper iPad at $218 in 2018, with the release date placed in the second half of the year. Consomac points out that this news marks an event in March.

Conclusion

This is one of the most reliable rumors so far, regarding the release of the new iPad. Moreover, similar leaked files of the Eurasian Commission in the past have come true. So, it is very likely that we will see the release of some iPads sometime in March as a refresh of the existing lineup. So in anticipation of developments...
