How to "root" an Android device in an easy way and without needing a PC.

Android is the most widespread, most easily modifiable and most open software available on mobile devices. All smartphones that have Android either have a version of it pre-installed, or are based on it. So, if you have an Android smartphone, it's very likely that you've heard the word "root" somewhere.

What is root

Rooting on Android corresponds to jailbrake on Android iOS. The concept is that we can access all the operating system security and get "super-user" rights for our device without any restrictions. In this way, we gain rights to install software that, under normal circumstances, would be forbidden due to the security locks of the operating system.

And, as we know, there are many applications that give much greater capabilities to our smartphone if we root or jailbrake it, which is why many users resort to this process. Through root we can uninstall the various mandatory applications that come pre-installed on our smartphone and which, if we don't want them, just take up valuable space.

So the question is ...

How is root done?

Under normal circumstances, root is a fairly complex process to achieve, and therefore many users avoid it. But there are ways to achieve it in a simple and easy way - in essence, with a "click" - and that's what we'll show you here. So we'll discuss two apps that can "root" and "unroot" your smartphone at will in one go.

Notes: remember that "root" can void the warranty of your device.

1. Framaroot

Framaroot is the number 1 app used worldwide to "root" our Android smartphone with one click and it works on most devices. The app has been developed by @alephzain a member of the Xda forum, and allows a user to root and unroot their device literally with one click.

See the list with the supported devices here

First download the Framaroot from here. You need to scroll down the page to find the link and select the latest one (Framaroot-1.9.3.apk) which is the newest version.

Go to Settings > Smartphone security and select "allow installation from unknown sources"

Install the Framaroot-1.9.3.apk you downloaded. If you see the warning of the images below choose to install as is (install anyway) and, when the installation is finished, launch the application.

You will now see two options. One says: 'select an action to execute after root' and underneath it has the 'install supersu', and the other says: 'select an exploit in the list above to potentially root your device'.

You select the "Install supersu" and the first "exploit" from the list and will start the process of "rooting" your device. If you receive the message: "Success... Superuser and SU binary installed. You have to reboot your device", everything went well and you just need to reboot your device for the changes to take effect. If you receive the message: "Failed ... Try another exploit if available", then you need to find another way to root your device.

2. Kingroot

And Kingroot looks like Framaroot - it will root your device with one click. Previously, the app was only available in Chinese, but now there's an English version. The first steps are the same as before: You download the app and launch it to install it. After the installation, you start the application and start the installation process:

  • After the application has started, click on "try to root". It will start the rooting process of your device. No special selection is needed. If everything goes well, you will see the message saying that root succeeded.

You will find the Kingroot here

Other applications for the same job are:

You can try the towelroot and cf auto root if you have a mobile phone Samsung and the above two methods did not work for you.

How to check if the root actually worked

Since one of the above applications has successfully completed the process (according to its claims), it's time to check if it actually did what it promised. For this purpose, you will need to download the application "root checker".

After you have installed it, start it and press the "Verify Root. If everything has gone well, you will see the message 'congratulations! Root access is properly installed on this device'.

This is all you need to root your Android device easily. Be aware of course, that without the safeguards offered by a device without root, you risk a lot, so it's good to know what you're doing.
