The new features and changes that iOS 17.1 for iPhone brings are:
- Apple Music Favorites (Favorites at Apple Music):
In the Music app, you can now share your favourite songs, albums, playlists and artists by tapping the star icon. Favorite music is automatically added to your Library and improves your recommendations. Also, the cover art collection offers color-changing designs that match your songs, and song suggestions are more easily displayed for selecting new songs.
- New screen standby settings:
In the Settings app, under StandBy → Screen, there are new options for customizing the screen standby setting. You can now set the screen to automatically turn off after 20 seconds or never turn off. This feature is available for some iPhone models.

- AirDrop via Internet:
AirDrop file transfers can now continue over the Internet outside of AirDrop's range, as long as both your iPhone and the recipient's iPhone are connected to an iCloud account. This can be done after the transfer is initiated over Wi-Fi. This feature helps prevent failed file transfers due to loss of Wi-Fi connection.
- Dynamic Island:
Dynamic Island now shows when the lens is actively used on all iPhone models that support this feature. Previously, this feature was limited to iPhone 15 Pro models. In addition, Reachability now has a solid black background on some iPhone models, eliminating the dual display appearance on the screen.
- Set an album to randomly display photos on the lock screen:
When you set up Photo Shuffle for the lock screen, you can now choose a specific photo album to display instead of Apple's default options.
- Nintendo Switch N64 controller support:
iOS 17.1 adds support for the new Bluetooth-enabled N64 controller released for the Nintendo Switch.
- Updates for the Wallet app:
Discover credit card holders will now be able to track their card activity directly through the Wallet app. In addition, Apple has fixed a few issues in the app that were causing it to close unnecessarily.
- Addressing the problem of excessive radiation:
With iOS 17.1, iPhone 12 will once again comply with the legal rules in France regarding radiation. Apple has reduced radiation emissions when iPhone 12 is placed on a static surface outside the body. The iPhone 12 will no longer increase its antenna energy in this position, resulting in the Specific Absorption Rate of Radiation (SAR) dropping below legal limits. This may have a slight effect on signal quality in some cases, but the majority of users won't notice any significant differences.
