Ο Safari is an excellent browser in the iOS, fast and with many features, but one important feature it lacks is web translation. Other browsers, such as Chrome have such a feature and - for some time now - Safari has it too, but it needs a trick.
And the trick is called "Extensions" which is a feature that both iOS and macOS have, to allow third-party developers to create apps that enrich Apple's apps (and not only) on iOS and macOS. It's something akin to the plug-ins of the well-known Photoshop.
How to achieve it
The way to achieve web page translation in Safari, and in other applications that can use extensions, is simple.
- Download the Microsoft Translator from the App Store.
- Open Safari and tap the share icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Drag the bottom bar with the monochrome icons until the "three dots" appear and tap them.
- All available extensions that you can activate will be displayed and along with them you will see the Microsoft Translator. Turn it on by pressing the switch to the right of it.
- Now you will see that the Microsoft Translator in the activity bar. tap it and it will translate the Safari website into your preferred language.
How we choose our preferred language
Normally Microsoft Translator will automatically select the preferred language from the country and region settings you have set on your iPhone (or iPad). But you can choose any language you want from the app settings.
- Open Microsoft Translator and go to its settings at the bottom right.
- Select Safari Translation Language.
- From there, select the desired translation language.
That was all. Just download the app and Safari will have another very useful feature.
