Is Facebook "eating up" your battery? We have some tips that will improve the situation.

It's true that one of the apps that "eat up" the battery while running in the background is that of Facebook. Of course, the simplest solution is to delete the app completely and access Facebook from its Safari page. But doing so will deprive you of valuable features like notifications and Live Photos.

The first and most important thing you need to understand is how the app works in the background. We have recently written a related article about iOS multitasking and how necessary it is to close apps in order to free up the RAM. You can read the text here.

A first step you can take is to disable the Refresh feature in the background for Facebook and any other application so that it is not able to run in the background. This doesn't solve the battery problem though. That's because Refresh in Background only serves to limit or accept the app's ability to launch in the background. If the app is already open, it will continue to operate with a set of rules over which the user has no control.

Go to Settings > Facebook > Settings > Refresh in background to see if this function is enabled.

You can also follow the route Settings > General > Refresh in background to see which other apps are refreshed in the background over Wi-Fi or a mobile network.

To see the percentage of battery power consumed by Facebook, go to Settings > Battery > Battery > Battery usage. In fact, if you tap on the clock icon on the right, the hours at which it is running in the background will be displayed.

So, to reduce battery usage because of Facebook, you can do two things: turn off the app in the background and close the app at the end of each use. You can do this by entering multitasking mode, pressing the home button twice and sending the app up. Also, we can do this even while in the app, so there's no need to go back to the home screen by pressing the home button once and then closing Facebook. Just tap the home button twice, "push" Facebook up and you're done.

Follow our advice and notice how much less battery you'll use while not missing out on your favourite social media.
